Laundry Rooms Doubling Up

Most people have become very adept at multi-tasking to keep up with the pace of today’s world, so it is no surprise that the rooms in our homes are following suit. One logical place for a multi-tasking space is the laundry room. Designers are now combing the laundry space with mudrooms, pet care areas, and a place for kids’ storage. The result of this mindset are designs that feature upscale amenities such as cabinets, storage solutions, granite or quartz countertops, deep sinks, and lots of tile.

The laundry room pairs well with other functions that can tend to be a little messy. It has turned into a double-duty room in most cases, and designers are now trying to make it more functional. The most common secondary usage of the laundry room is as a mudroom. A place where there is ample space for shoes, coats, children’s backpacks, sport equipment, and client-defined storage. A space for the family pet is also a priority for the design of the laundry room. Storage for pet food, necessities, and a grooming space often pair well with the laundry room. Designing a dog shower works well there because of the tendency to install a tile or water-tolerable floor.

The list of must-haves in the laundry room continues to grow as the functionality of the laundry room becomes more and more popular. While much of the traditional discussion has been about sharing the laundry room space for other purposes or functions, many homeowners are requesting a second laundry room closer to the bedrooms. Making it closer to where the actual laundry is. Allowing a separate area for hanging space, laundry hampers, and a place for ironing or steaming clothes.

Overall we like to create laundry rooms that are warm and inviting. The more pleasant the atmosphere the more our can clients can actually enjoy doing laundry and house chores. Stop by Florida Bath & Surfaces, Inc. Design Center to design your multi-functioning laundry space.

Today the The Big Green Egg is a modern ceramic marvel known for producing amazing culinary results for the novice and expert alike.

With more capabilities than all other conventional cookers combined and five convenient sizes to choose from, there is a Big Green Egg to fit every lifestyle. The Big Green Egg is easy to start, easy to control, and safe to use. The Egg has a useable range of 200 degrees Fahrenheit to over 750 degrees Fahrenheit making it extremely versatile. From pizza to ribs, or holiday evening desserts, the Big Green Egg will exceed all of your expectations.

Fire Grilled Steak with Steakhouse Butter

By Big Green Egg

½ cup (120 ml) butter, softened

2 tbsp (30 ml) finely minced shallot or red onion

1 clove of garlic, finely minced

1 tbsp (15 ml) finely minced parsley

1 tbsp (15 ml) finely minced fresh thyme

2 tbsp (30 ml) of your favorite vinegar

A sprinkle or two of salt and lots of freshly ground pepper

4 thick New York strip loin, sirloin or ribeye steaks

A sprinkle or two of sea salt and freshly ground pepper on each steak

Stir all the ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Scoop the butter into a large resalable bag. Press the butter and form a thick log shape, roughly 4 inches (10cm) long. Tightly roll up the bag, shaping the butter into a perfect round log. Refrigerate or freeze for several hours or overnight until the butter is firm enough to slice.

Set the Egg for direct (no convEGGtor) at 600 degree Fahrenheit with a Cast Iron Cooking Grid. Just before you begin to cook the steaks, pat them dry and season them heavily with salt and pepper. Position the steaks on the grid at a 45 degree angle to the grid lines. After a few minutes, turn them 90 degrees to get the perfect steakhouse grill marks. Flip and repeat. Continue cooking until the steaks reach the doneness you prefer. You may press the steaks with your finger to gauge doneness; they stiffen as they cook through. This will take some time to master but it’s a skill worth cultivating!

Top each steak with a thick slice of steakhouse butter; serve, share, and enjoy! Serves 4.

Penny-round Tiles – A vintage yet modern look

Classic and understated, these close-set circles can make a huge impact on any house design. Ceramic penny-round tile has been around for more than a century but never achieved the ubiquity of hex tile. Penny-rounds are diverse enough to give a bathroom a vintage feel yet a modern look. Originally, they were solid in face-mounted paper sheets and set into a sand-and-cement mortar that also served as grout, easy-to-clean unglazed porcelain circles which debuted in bathrooms and kitchen in the early 1900s.

Initially, penny-round tiles were prized as a no-slip surface, however, now they have more range than ever. Penny-round tiles are making a splash as backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, shower walls, and accent statements for walls. It is a great choice for a powder bath floor or kitchen backsplash.IMG_3572

Not only are penny-rounds great for kitchen and bath accents they are also extremely affordable. Ranging in a variety of colors, penny-rounds are versatile for any color theme. To see the variety of penny-round tile stop by the Florida Bath & Surfaces Design Center to take a peek!

Tile Style

In today’s kitchen and bath designs, tile is often picked as the wild card where literally anything goes. Textures, patterns, finishes, and shapes are adding depth and design where surfaces were previously flat. The possibilities are endless with the newest tile creations.

Marble and neutral stones are top choices for a classic look. Rustic and modern designs yield more textured and rugged stones. Glass, stainless, porcelain, stone, and terracotta are all making statements of their own in a variety of colors. Glass tiles are offered in a range of designs and finishes from glossy to flat and in a wide array of colors. They are great for accent walls and small sections in kitchen and bathrooms to give a pop of color.

Mosaics are available in rectangles, circles, and hexagons, versus traditional squares which give an added interest to design spaces. Large format tiles are increasing in popularity to produce a sleek look with smaller and fewer grout lines.

The larger format tiles are not only used in bathrooms to create sleek and clean lines but for flooring and wall coverings as well. Floor tiles now mimic hardwood and marble floors. “Wood-like” tile has changed how homeowners view the appropriate place in the home for tile especially due to the fact tile is more durable and requires less maintenance than other traditional types of flooring material. With the look of wood and other natural stones the popularity for wood tile planks has dramatically increased.
